CEDAR SPRINGS, MI – Classmates of a teenager who died Wednesday are grieving his loss while dealing with the trauma of seeing the boy's body as he was being cradled by his mother in the family's front yard.
Cedar Springs students were traveling toward school about 7:20 a.m. on May 4 when a bus driver made a regular stop near 17 Mile Road NE and Shaner Avenue. One of the teen's brothers, who had not been at the regular stop where he boards the bus, dashed over and told the driver that his brother was dead, according to a student who was on the bus at the time.
The driver and roughly 20 students on the bus had no way to leave the area without exposing many aboard to the scene, the student said. The victim's mother was in a nearby ditch holding her son, the student said.
"It was a shock, just to see a mother encasing her child and rocking him," the student said. "I can't imagine what the family is going through right now."

UPDATE: The Kent County Sheriff's Department has confirmed they are investigating the teen's death as a suicide.
