Farmington Hills doctor arraigned on fraud charges following investigation
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office on Tuesday announced charges against a Farmington Hills doctor that include Medicaid and health care fraud, along with running a criminal enterprise.
Bassel Altantawi, 45, a physician who practices at Canton Urgent Care, located at 43033 Ford Road in Canton, is charged with 12 counts of health care fraud, nine counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of continuing a criminal enterprise tied to an investigation into Altantawi’s practice.
Schuette said that Canton Township police contacted his office’s Health Care Fraud division after getting a complaint that Altantawi was allegedly billing for services not given.
An ensuing investigation revealed the doctor repeatedly billed Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for medical services he didn’t actually provide to patients.
