Missing valuable jewelry and a heavy bag of coins in Rep. Rangel's Harlem apartment
Police are investigating the disappearance of high-priced jewelry and a heavy bag of coins from the Harlem apartment of Rep. Charlie Rangel, cop sources said.
Rangel’s wife, Alma, called police Wednesday morning after she noticed a diamond ring valued at $9,000, a gold ring, and a string of pearls missing from the bedroom of their apartment, sources said. The couple lives at W. 135th St. by Malcom X Blvd., sources said.
Police are treating the case as a grand larceny — investigators found no signs of forced entry, and the Rangels, who often host gatherings, receive regular visits from neighbors and cleaning workers, sources said.
The items — which included a bag of between $300 and $400 in change in the kitchen — were last seen on Thursday, sources said.
