Faced with a bleak budget outlook, legislators want county governments to pay for more public services. That may ease the state budget, but it will put more pressure on all three counties to provide the same level of services –– potentially forcing them to raise property taxes. The General Assembly's Joint Finance Committee, responsible for crafting the state's budget, has proposed creating a new panel of state and county government leaders to examine what services the counties should absorb.
