BUFFALO — Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday signed into law a package of bills intended to address the state’s heroin and opioid abuse crisis. The bills, which address the broad areas of prevention, treatment and insurance coverage, include the addition of 270 treatment beds and more then 2,000 slots for programs that treat substance abuse disorder. Under the new laws, insurance companies are barred for 14 days from conducting a review that could result in a denial of coverage for drug abusers determined in need of inpatient treatment. The legislation also includes a limit on opioid prescriptions for acute pain to a seven-day supply. And hospitals will be required to provide discharge planning for people admitted to the emergency room after an overdose. blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/250739/cuomo-signs-anti-heroin-bills/
