Same-sex marriage ‘routine’ in South Carolina a year after U.S. Supreme Court decision COLUMBIA — Sunday marks a year since the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision upheld the right for same-sex couples in South Carolina and across the nation to marry. “In general I find people are very receptive, very friendly and I think most people accept it as the next step in civil rights,” said Charleston County Councilwoman Colleen Condon of the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling. The decision solidified Condon’s right to marry her now wife Nichols Bleckley seven months after a federal judge found South Carolina’s gay marriage ban was unconstitutional. “While there are certainly people raising issues, we’re not seeing mass discrimination issues,” Condon said.
