All things considered, Terry Rucker thinks he’s lucky. His home sits high up in the hills of Clendenin, far away from the floods that ravaged his neighbors’ homes below him. But he wasn’t lucky enough. He said torrential rains washed away part of his driveway and caused mud slides around his home. He feared his house would slide down the hill. So he packed all his friends and family, 14 in all, and looked for a motel. They couldn’t afford multiple rooms and hoped to pile into one room for the night.
