Georgia’s top Republican activist is in hot water after he allegedly refused to pay over $340,000 in outstanding legal fees, according to a recently filed lawsuit. Georgia GOP Chairman John Padgett is accused of backing up on $340,000 in legal fees to Fisher & Phillips out of Atlanta. The firm reports that Padgett has continuously ignored firm invoices since the firm was hired in 2014. Padgett sought legal council when he was named in a lawsuit by a former Georgia GOP employee. Qiana Keith accused Padgett and others of humiliating her. Padgett specifically was named for using racial slurs. He has since been removed from that lawsuit by way of a judge, but the legal fees remain. Padgett previously agreed to pay the legal fees himself. “Padgett has acted in bad faith, has been stubbornly litigious and has caused Fisher & Phillips unnecessary trouble and expense in collecting this amount,” read the complaint.
