Procter & Gamble's laundry detergent factory in Lima appears to be a winner in the company's ongoing review of its manufacturing operations. The consumer products giant announced it will spend $65 million to build an 80,000-square-foot addition to the plant that first opened in 1968, which makes Tide, Gain and Dreft detergents as well as Downy fabric softener. The new operation will make chemicals for laundry and beauty products. P&G's Lima factory, roughly 125 miles north of Cincinnati, currently is about 600,000 square feet and employs 600 company workers and another 200 contractors. The new project will create an additional 51 jobs. Officials with Ohio Gov. John Kasich's office said the state granted an estimated tax credit worth $119,000 over six years.
