Law enforcement officials are asking the public to line the route of the funeral procession on Saturday for Danville Police Officer Thomas Cottrell as a show of respect. A funeral for Cottrell, who authorities say was targeted because he was a police officer and was ambushed and killed by Herschel Ray Jones III late Sunday night, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Adena Hall on the Newark campus of the Ohio State University and Central Ohio Technical College. Sgt. Clint Eskins of the Newark Police Department said anyone attending the funeral should use the north entrance to the campus on Country Club Drive. Anyone not going to Wilson Cemetery afterward should park at the Evans Complex on Sharon Valley Road where there will be shuttles available to the service. More than 2,000 people are expected at the service, most of them law enforcement officers from across the country. After the funeral, hundreds of police vehicles will follow the hearse to the cemetery using the following route from campus: west on Granville Road to north on Country Club Drive, west onto Sharon Valley Road to Welsh Hills Road and then east on Price Road, west onto N. 21st Street, and north on Rt. 13 to the cemetery.
