Democratic U.S. House candidate Paula Hawks called on her competitor Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., Thursday to support Medicaid expansion as a means of improving Native American health care in South Dakota. The comment came during a press conference in Sioux Falls at which Hawks highlighted Noem's previous actions on Native American health care. “If there’s one place where her silence is louder than anything on her record, it’s her silence on Medicaid expansion," Hawks said. A day after the state's Republican governor said he wouldn't call a special session to discuss Medicaid expansion, Hawks called on Noem to support expansion and on Gov. Dennis Daugaard to reconsider a special session or to approve expansion without the Legislature's support.
