Corinthian Colleges: Feds forgive $171 million in student debtThe Obama administration this week forgave $171 million in federal loans to students who attended Corinthian Colleges, the Santa Ana-based, for-profit chain accused of inflating the value of its degrees. Corinthian operated three schools in the Inland Empire. Of the claims filed by students with the U.S. Department of Education, 9,700 came from California, more than any other state, according to a report filed Wednesday. In all, the department had received 23,185 claims from students who attended Everest College, Everest Institute, Heald College or WyoTech. So far, the government said it has granted loan relief to 11,173 former Corinthian students. Read more: www.pe.com/articles/students-807242-corinthian-department.html
