It was around 5:20 a.m. on Friday morning when a bleary-eyed Gov. Jack Markell signed the budget bills to fund state government, officially ending a marathon final day of the legislative session. "People ask me if I'm going to miss the whole June 30th thing," said Markell, who is serving his last year in office. grinning wryly. "Uhhh ... no." Since they had approved a $4.1 billion operating budget Wednesday, some lawmakers entered the last day Thursday hoping to finish earlier than last year, when a protracted budget battle kept them in session until around 5:35 a.m. But it still took about 11 hours for lawmakers to steam through dozens of bills, most of them stirring little or no controversy.
