The AFL-CIO today launched its first ads this election cycle targeting U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa. The ads, which are running on Facebook, are part of a national campaign targeting vulnerable Republicans in six battleground states. “Sen. Toomey repeatedly fails to stand up for working Pennsylvanians,” said Rick Bloomingdale, president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. He said Mr. Toomey supports job-killing trade deals and tax plans that put the wealthy ahead of working people. Democratic challenger Katie McGinty, meanwhile, is “a proven leader who shares our values and will bring the voices of working people to Congress,” said Frank Snyder, the Pennsylvania affiliate’s secretary and treasurer. The ads are running as a series of ten Facebook memes. One, for example, includes a photo of a sick child and this text: “Millions of people can’t take time from work to take care of a new child or a sick family member. Tell Sen. Toomey to stop opposing legislation to give millions paid family leave.” Read more: www.post-gazette.com/early-returns/erstate/2016/07/01/AFL-CIO-targets-Sen-Pat-Toomey-in-its-first-ad-campaign/stories/201607010211
