Running for President Made Ted Cruz Less Popular Everywhere, Including TexasFor Texas progressives, this week has rightfully been full of joy at the Supreme Court decision in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. But work still remains to be done, including electing pro-choice officials at all levels of our state. Buried in the news this week was a small bit of good news on that front. Texas’ not-so-favorite junior Senator Ted Cruz, who is vehemently anti-choice, looks to be losing ground. A new poll from UT’s Texas politics project suggests Ted Cruz is facing his lowest approval and favorability ratings ever in Texas. Cruz has been keeping a relatively low profile since dropping out of the election, which is good, because his time in the spotlight seems to be responsible for his drop in popularity. According to the pollsters at UT, his approval rating fell from 71% in October 2015 to 55% in June 2016. Granted, that’s still a majority who, for some reason, approve of the job Ted Cruz is doing as senator, but the key here is the drop — in the eight months he spent in the spotlight, his approval rating dropped 16%. That is even more apparent when see the breakdown of Cruz’s approval ratings.
