A former inmate at Augusta State Medical Prison who attacked a guard asked for and received the maximum punishment Thursday. James Leon Washington, 24, pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to obstruction of an officer, aggravated battery and aggravated assault. All he wanted, Washington told Judge Carl C. Brown Jr., is to be left alone with his Bible and a television in a maximum-security prison cell. On Aug. 17, Washington attacked Nikki Reynolds when she opened his cell to deliver a food tray, said Assistant District Attorney Deshala Dixon. She hasn’t been back to the work since and still suffers headaches, Dixon said. “I was trying to kill her,” Washington told the investigating officer.
