A Wiregrass man previously convicted in connection with a cross burning in a predominantly black neighborhood is going back to prison after violating the terms of his supervised release. Steven Joshua Dinkle, 30, received a 15-month sentence Thursday in U.S. District Court. After serving time in prison for his role in a 2009 cross burning in an Ozark neighborhood, Dinkle was placed on supervised release. He was found last year to be in possession of a Taurus .32 caliber handgun, prompting his arrest. It is against federal law for a convicted felon to possess a firearm, unless his or her gun rights have been restored. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the United States Probation Office, and the Dale County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Redmond. Authorities said Dinkle is the former Exalted Cyclops of the Ozark chapter of the International Keystone Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
