Potential Clinton VP pick Sherrod Brown mum on candidacy during visit to CantonCANTON U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, who has been discussed as a possible Democratic vice presidential candidate, met with Mayor Thomas Bernabei for about 15 minutes for coffee Tuesday morning at John's Bar and Grill before going on a tour of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where he learned more about the Hall of Fame Village expansion. Brown, who said he has visited the Hall of Fame before, referred to his involvement in helping get the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make decisions on housing in the area to allow the project to go forward. "I'm working with HUD on some issues with the Hall and will continue to," Brown said. "There are some housing issues that we just need to work through in terms of the expansion, and I wanted to learn more kind of from the inside out." Stark County Commissioner Richard Regula said he spoke with Brown about a month ago. The Hall of Fame's purchase of two homes owned by HUD that needed to be demolished for the Hall of Fame Village expansion was being held up by red tape, said Regula, who didn't know the location of the homes. He said Brown and his office contacted HUD, which approved the sale about a week ago and made arrangements to relocate the families who lived there.
