WAUSAU - A 92-year-old Wausau man was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years behind bars for molesting a female family member more than 20 years ago. Edward Heckendorf was convicted in February of eight counts of first-degree sexual assault a child under the age of 13. Marathon County Deputy District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon asked Judge Michael Moran for the sentence Heckendorf ultimately received, while Heckendorf's attorney recommended prohibition and treatment for his client. Moran said he didn't wasn't concerned about Heckendorf's age or failing health — Heckendorf entered court in a wheelchair — when he determined an appropriate sentence. He was more concerned with ensuring that Heckendorf never molested another child. "I can't heal any wounds (of the victims)," Moran said. "I wish I could, but I can't."
