Rauner, Democrats spar over who left Rockford airport cash out of budgetROCKFORD -- Gov. Bruce Rauner said Tuesday that he included funding for Chicago Rockford International Airport’s maintenance, repair and overhaul project in the Republicans’ stopgap spending proposal, but it was removed by Democrats before the final bill was passed Thursday. Pat Quinn promised $16.5 million as the state’s share of the $40 million maintenance, repair and overhaul project. About $1.5 million was paid to the airport, but Rauner put a temporary freeze on projects on July 1, 2015, because legislators did not pass a budget last year. “I support that (maintenance, repair and overhaul) project,” Rauner told the Rockford Register Star in a one-on-one interview Tuesday at the Rockford Environmental and Science Academy.
