State to begin paying nearly $1.6M owed 2015 state fair vendorsVendors owned money from the 2015 Illinois State Fair should finally get paid as a result of a short-term budget approved by state lawmakers, though just how soon the money will arrive remains uncertain. A six-month spending plan approved on Thursday, the final day of the state fiscal year, authorizes nearly $1.6 million for overdue vendor payments, as well as $6.4 million for operating the 2016 fair, Illinois Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Rebecca Clark said Tuesday. "We received authorization to pay vendors for 2015 and 2016," said Clark. The state was without a spending authorization plan for all of the previous fiscal year. The $6.4 million in operations expenses included for this year's fair, scheduled for Aug. 11-21, should help avoid a second year of delayed vendor payments, according to the department. Clark said actual vendor costs would not be known until after the fair. Operation funds are raised from gate admission, parking fees, concert-ticket sales and other fair charges.
