Nebraska gambling supporters move one step closer to seeing issue on November ballot
LINCOLN — Supporters of a petition drive to allow casino gambling in Nebraska said Thursday that they have collected roughly 310,000 signatures in an effort to get issue on the November ballot.
While the number sounds big, it was spread out over three different petitions that have been in circulation for about nine months. As a result, the margins for the gambling petitions are tighter than they were for other recent high-profile petitions.
“It was much more difficult because we had to explain three petitions and ask voters to wait around and sign three petitions,” said Scott Lautenbaugh, spokesman for the pro-gambling group Keep the Money in Nebraska.
The group also worked to weed out signatures that obviously were invalid, he added.
