Ben Sasse and Donald Trump meet, but spokesman says nothing has changed; 'this election remains a dumpster fire'WASHINGTON – Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and Donald Trump had the opportunity to chat face-to-face Thursday when the presumptive Republican presidential nominee met with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill. Sasse has been one of Trump’s most prominent GOP critics, calling on conservatives to look for a third option in November. It’s safe to say Sasse was not converted by what he heard Thursday, based on a statement provided to The World-Herald by his spokesman James Wegmann. “Sen. Sasse went to today’s meeting ready to listen,” Wegmann said in the statement. “Sen. Sasse introduced himself to Mr. Trump and the two had a gracious exchange. Mr. Sasse continues to believe that our country is in a bad place and, with these two candidates, this election remains a dumpster fire.
