Reno considers new strip club rule: 'No' to liquor, 'yes' to full nudityStrippers and club owners got a first look at proposed changes that could be coming to the city of Reno's adult entertainment ordinance in a contentious meeting at city hall Thursday. The proposed changes could force existing strip clubs to stop selling alcohol within two years or move to a location that is appropriately zoned for adult entertainment businesses. Most current strip clubs are in locations that are no longer zoned for adult entertainment businesses. The ordinance also would prohibit signs similar to the digital sign in front of the Wild Orchid on the corner of California and Virginia streets that has drawn significant community ire for its animated depictions of dancing strippers. Club owners, their lawyers and strippers filled the room to listen to the city's zoning and code enforcement managers explain the proposed changes. They did not react kindly, challenging the city's right to limit their speech on their signs and questioning the city's proof that strip clubs cause "secondary effects" such as drug use, prostitution and sexual assault.
