With pending arrival of UNLV med school, college system ends health workforce programThe Nevada System of Higher Education has ended a 10-year-old program that sought to develop Nevada's health care workforce and encourage research. Officials announced Friday that they phased out the Health Sciences System last month. They praised the program's accomplishments but noted it's a natural transition because UNLV's new medical school is about to open. The program had four employees based in Las Vegas. One was reassigned and three are no longer employed with the system. The higher education organization will save $382,000 a year by ending the program.
