State settles with online charter accused of financial violationsThe state attorney general’s office has reached a settlement with an online charter school it had accused of false advertising, misleading parents and inadequate instruction. The settlement, announced late Friday afternoon, closes the state’s civil investigation of the various branches of California Virtual Academy, but it does not end the challenges for the school and its corporate affiliate, Virginia-based K12 Inc. The California-based schools still could face action from the state Department of Education, and its teachers have launched a union organizing drive. “All children deserve, and are entitled under the law, to an equal education,” state Atty. Gen. Kamala D.
