A Placentia woman who slipped and fell at the Pechanga Resort and Casino has been awarded more than $2.8 million in damages after her attorney argued that injuries forced her to leave a schoolteacher’s position. Retired San Diego Superior Court Judge J. Richard Haden, after a five-day arbitration hearing, ruled in favor of Suzanne Naruko, 47, who slipped on spilled water while entering the Pechanga Casino in May 2013. Naruko’s right foot got tangled with her left leg, causing her to fall hard onto the tile floor. She described feeling “a really quick jolt – almost like an electric surge” before her vision went black, according to court records. Attorney Eric V. Traut, who represented Naruko, said his client suffered a concussion, with her symptoms in the days after the accident including loss of memory, fatigue, nausea, dizziness and vomiting.
