BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Gov. Steve Bullock says rising household incomes and low unemployment show Montana’s on the right path under his leadership. His Republican challenger, Bozeman businessman Greg Gianforte, points to declining revenues and layoffs in the energy sector as evidence of an economy left adrift by the Democrat’s lax management. The two candidates offered those starkly different outlooks on the state’s fiscal health during a Monday debate in Billings. Analysts say each has legitimate arguments: The state’s economy is down from a banner year in 2015, but economists say it’s too soon to say troubles in parts of the economy will prove lasting.
