Maryland biotechnology company lobbies Virginia lawmakers for partnership A Maryland biotechnology company is lobbying Virginia lawmakers to invest millions of dollars in creating companies the firm would manage. MedImmune, which has a research site in Gaithersburg, Md., says it would match state money to help start companies that in two years could survive without public money, according to documents obtained by The Virginian-Pilot. Virginia has received several proposals for spending money on bioscience, said state Commerce Secretary Maurice Jones, who said he could not comment on them. Jones is a former publisher of The Virginian-Pilot. Gov. Terry McAuliffe is proposing a large increase in grants for biotechnology companies in his two-year budget under consideration by the General Assembly. Regions around the state are interested in the industry, including Virginia Beach, which created a corridor for developing such businesses. pilotonline.com/business/maryland-biotechnology-company-lobbies-virginia-lawmakers-for-partnership/article_7be9fb0b-abd6-5360-8190-e27e2c1caf1c.html
