Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday issued an executive order creating a new cabinet agency in the state.
The Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology will consolidate all of the state’s information technology services into one department.
At a news conference at the Illinois Department of Corrections headquarters in Springfield, Rauner said 29 other states already consolidate their technology operations into one agency.
In Illinois, IT services are spread among many different agencies, resulting in patchwork systems and systems that often can't work with each other.
