TEXARKANA -- A registered sex offender who injected teen girls with methamphetamine pleaded guilty to 40 felonies Monday in exchange for a 25-year prison term.
Lonnie Lee Lunsford Jr., 31, repeatedly uttered the word "guilty" Monday morning at a hearing before Miller County Circuit Judge Kirk Johnson. The case was scheduled for jury selection Monday afternoon, but Lunsford's attorney, Garnett Norwood of Texarkana, and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney David Cotten announced they had reached an agreement.
"We are satisfied with the plea, guilty on all counts, done with the victim's and her family's approval," Cotten said. "Texarkana, Ark., police Sgt. Chris Rankin deserves credit for pursuing this case and, in my opinion, helping to save the victim's life."
Lunsford began giving a 16-year-old girl methamphetamine intravenously in June 2014 at his home in the 500 block of Orleans Street in Texarkana, Ark., according to court documents used to create the following account. Lunsford allegedly offered to show the girl how to "bump," or inject, the illicit drug.
"She had previously told me that she was never able to use a needle herself because it hurt too badly and that Lunsford injected her in the arm in such a way that it did not hurt," documents state. "(The victim) told me, 'The first was a 30-unit bump,' meaning 30 units from a standard insulin syringe, and that every time from then on, Lunsford would inject her with 30 units of methamphetamine. I asked her how she was certain of this, and she told me, 'I will never forget that, that's something you don't ever forget.'"
