Richmond investment firm asks court to dismiss widow's lawsuit alleging former partner stole millions
Richmond-based investment advisory firm Thompson Davis & Co. is asking that a lawsuit filed by a local widow against the firm and its employees for financial mismanagement be dismissed.
Lynne Kinder filed the lawsuit seeking $9 million in Richmond Circuit Court in November, alleging Victor Dandridge III, an Albemarle County resident and partner at Thompson Davis & Co. from January 2012 until last summer, had drained $5.2 million from the family fortune between 2007 and 2016.
Dandridge — along with his wife, Ann Claiborne Dandridge, and Thompson Davis — were listed among the defendants.
The suit alleges that William Davis Jr., the CEO at Thompson Davis, as well as former and current compliance officers Kevin Rutherford and Walter Young, were aware that Dandridge had been illegally managing the assets of multiple clients for years, since Dandridge was never registered or licensed to do so by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission or the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
