LAS CRUCES — An abortion clinic that opened in late 2014 in Las Cruces has closed its doors. A receptionist for Whole Woman's Health, the multi-state organization that opened the clinic, confirmed in a call Thursday that the clinic was closed. A spokesperson for the organization couldn't be reached for comment Thursday or Friday. Pro-choice advocates expressed disappointment about the closure, saying it means decreased access for women seeking abortions. And pro-life supporters held a celebration Friday at the former clinic's East Lohman Avenue site to mark the closure. The clinic was one of two in Doña Ana County; the second, operated by a different company, remains open in Santa Teresa. Pro-life supporters, who regularly demonstrate on a sidewalk near the former clinic's East Lohman Avenue location, said the clinic seemed to have closed several weeks ago. But it also had closed temporarily for a stint in 2016, so they weren't sure if it was a permanent closure. But in recent days, signs on the building disappeared.
