CARSON CITY – Amid national concerns from the president that voter fraud is rampant, a Reno assemblywoman introduced a bill requiring voter identification at the polls. Assemblywoman Lisa Krasner, R-Reno, introduced Assembly Bill 164 on Monday that would mandate voters show identification when voting. The bill also contains a provision the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide voter identification cards at no cost if a person can't afford it. “I think that Republicans, Democrats, nonpartisans alike care about voter integrity,” Krasner said. Voter fraud has been a national issue for some time, but became a focal point of Republican President Donald Trump, who has claimed the only reason he lost the popular vote by around 3 million votes was illegal votes in California, New Hampshire and several other states, all for his opponent Democrat Hillary Clinton.
