Legislative Update: Budget amendments, school vouchers, retirement plans, first bill signed
INDIANAPOLIS – House Republicans defeated numerous state budget amendments proposed by Democrat representatives Thursday – setting up a full vote on the spending plan Monday.
House Bill 1001 sets budget priorities for the state the next two years and spends more than $32 billion.
Democrats offered amendments on a host of topics – from additional school funding for poor students, money for a new state archives building and even funding to replace the elevators at the Statehouse.
The caucus also offered $300 million in cuts – including eliminating state testing.
