Ex-Detroit councilwoman Monica Conyers: I wasn't fired from radio station I quit
Ex-Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers is denying a radio station's claims that she was fired for doing something wrong at work, saying instead that she quit a few days ago and that executives got upset. "Monica was not terminated. She left. She has a lot going on right now," Royal Oak attorney Daniel Findling, who represented Conyers in a prior divorce proceeding, told the Free Press today. As for claims that Conyers was terminated for violating a corporate policy, Findling said: "That's just patently false. Monica had indicated a short time prior to this statement that she no longer wanted to be associated with the Word Network, that she was resigning. It's spin from the executives ... People's egos are hurt." Findling's comments are a reaction to a memo that was released today by the Word Network, a Southfield- based television and religious broadcasting network, which announced that Conyers, the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., was fired from her position as radio host on WFDF-AM (910) "for violation of corporate policy." She got the weekend gig six months ago, though it wasn't paid.
