'If they can vote, let them serve': Senator wants to lower age for Nebraska public officeholders
Nebraska voters could decide whether to lower the age for public officeholders to 18 under a bill debated Thursday in the State Legislature. The minimum age for state senators to serve in the Nebraska Legislature is 21, while the lieutenant governor, governor and judges on the Nebraska Supreme Court must be 30. Legislative Resolution 26CA, introduced by O’Neill State Sen. Tyson Larson, would ask voters in November to lower the minimum age for all elected or appointed offices to 18. But some lawmakers raised concerns about whether people who are 18 have the life experience or are intellectually able to serve.
