Judge orders man to pay back Medicaid for false claims
A federal judge has ordered the owner of an Omaha medical equipment company to pay nearly $66,000 in restitution for filing dozens of false Medicaid claims between 2004 and 2010. Clement Akara, 61, pleaded guilty to health care fraud in September. At his sentencing Thursday in Lincoln, U.S. District Court Judge John Gerrard gave him five months in prison, five months of house arrest and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service. According to an indictment, Akara fraudulently billed Medicaid 76 times, illegally getting $65,911.86. Court records said he filed claims for nebulizers and other equipment and services never provided. journalstar.com/news/state-and-regional/nebraska/judge-orders-man-to-pay-back-medicaid-for-false-claims/article_c0b64fa1-a60e-5559-b9b5-bda8614fe449.html
