Hammond Westside Montessori School closes after more than 300 students get NorovirusHammond Westside Montessori School students will not attend school today so that the campus can be sanitized to break the cycle of Norovirus. Superintendent Mark Kolwe said the hope is that with a three-day weekend, a contractor and workers can thoroughly sanitize the school and fight off the airborne stomach virus. -snip- Hammond Westside is the only one in the system that is experiencing an alarming number of students who caught this virus, Kolwe said, and the number of sick students has only increased in recent days. The virus outbreak began last Friday with 50 students absent. On Tuesday, Kolwe said the school was experiencing roughly 10 percent absenteeism. By Thursday, more than 300 students were out.
