The former Coraopolis police chief will serve three years’ probation and perform 300 hours of community service for causing a crash in 2014 that seriously injured another driver. Alan DeRusso, 57, was sentenced Thursday by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani after pleading guilty in October to three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person. “His conduct has put a burden on an innocent member of this community that will be with her to her last breath,” the judge said. Mr. DeRusso was driving his unmarked police car at 8:14 a.m. Aug. 7, 2014, on Route 51 at Thorn Run Road in Moon when he ran a red light and struck a vehicle traveling through the green light at the intersection.
