Springfield Public Schools still paying off bond-funded projects in schools that may be closedNearly 11 years ago, Springfield voters approved a bond issue to air-condition a K-8 school building that will likely be torn down and rebuilt if the April 4 bond issue passes. The $3.4 million project at Pershing Elementary and Middle School may not be fully paid off until 2026. -snip- "Those are buildings that are going to be abandoned that we're still paying for and that we've done updates to," said Ralph Plank, a former Springfield school board member who helped to form the bond opposition group, Save R-12 Schools. "To me, that seems very wasteful and a poor use of tax money." He added: "I think that should be a concern to everybody."
