Musicians owed thousands after Colorado Masterworks Chorus dissolved
The now defunct Colorado Masterworks Chorus put on two performances of Handel's "Israel in Egypt" in early March but according to people involved, 33 musicians who participated in the production have yet to be paid for their work.
Timpanist Tom Blomster said he is owed about $400 as are nearly three dozen other people involved with the production, mostly in the orchestra which accompanied the chorus. The production performed two concerts, one in Boulder and one in Denver on March 3 and 4, respectively.
Blomster, who is also the music director for the Colorado Chamber Orchestra, said the musicians who were involved in the production had to perform at the two concerts but also spent two nights in rehearsals.
"It's $400, which in the lives of many freelance musicians is a significant sum of money," Blomster said. "I know there are people who took that gig that week."
