Former Madbury man, a Planet Fitness employee, guilty in $1 million fraud
CONCORD — A former systems manager for Planet Fitness Holdings LLC was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison in a mail fraud involving more than $1 million in iPads.
Nicholas Selby, 31, of Snellville, Ga., formerly of Madbury, was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court after he pleaded guilty to a mail-fraud scheme that involved the theft of $1,065,100 from his former employer.
Selby, as a systems manager, did not have authority to make purchases on behalf of the company. Nevertheless, from November 2013 to March 2015, Selby purchased 2,190 iPads from four technology vendors with whom Planet Fitness maintained credit accounts, according to U.S. Attorney Emily Gray Rice.
Planet Fitness paid for the iPads after Selby submitted fraudulent invoices to the company’s accounts payable department. He then took possession of the iPads when they arrived at the company's corporate offices in Newington, and sold them for his personal benefit.
