Police say threat prompting lockdown at Northwood High likely a hoaxIRVINE — A phone threat from a person claiming to be a student prompting a lockdown Thursday at Northwood High School was apparently a hoax, according to police. Northwood High School went on lockdown around 1:40 p.m. Thursday, April 13, after a male called Irvine police and said he was in a bathroom on campus with guns and explosives, Irvine police Cmdr. Mike Hallinan said in a statement. The school went on lockdown, meaning instruction continued, but students and teachers remained locked in their classrooms. “The lockdown was ordered out of an abundance of caution so the police can conduct its investigation,” said Annie Brown, a spokeswoman for the Irvine Unified School District.
