BETTENDORF -- A line of cold, wet Ben Carson fans waited two-hours plus outside a venue that exceeded 300-capacity for a Bettendorf town hall meeting Thursday night. Their endurance was rewarded by Carson’s campaign staff and secret service, who swiftly cleared the building and funneled another 200 bodies in for screening and hosted a second town hall meeting. The Bettendorf stop, which finally wrapped at 10 p.m., closed out a hectic day for the Republican presidential candidate. The campaign squeezed in three public events, starting in Cedar Rapids, plus two private meetings with newspaper editorial boards. One attendee, 54-year-old Dottie Seitz, said she arrived at 5:40 p.m. and was about to enter Precision Signz for the scheduled 6:30 p.m. event when secret service cut her off.
