WASHINGTON – The chairwoman of Xerox and the company’s largest investor don’t expect major changes in its Rochester-area workforce as a result of a company split in the works. That’s the message New York Sen. Chuck Schumer said he got in separate conversations with Xerox Chairwoman and CEO Ursula Burns and billionaire shareholder Carl Icahn. “At this point we should be in a period of careful watching, but not panic in any way,’’ Schumer said Saturday. He said he’s “considerably relieved’’ the split won’t impact the Rochester operations. Xerox employs about 6,400 people in downtown Rochester and nearby Webster. Xerox announced plans Friday to spin off the Affiliated Computer Services business unit it acquired in 2010 as a separate publicly traded Business Process Outsourcing company.
