Midstate company lands $2.9B government contractUnited Concordia said Monday it was awarded a $2.9 billion federal contract to administer the TRICARE Dental Program for about 1.8 million members of the U.S. military and their families. The five-year contract is expected to result in up to 100 new jobs at United Concordia, a dental benefits company. United Concordia has about 1,000 employees, with many based at its main site in Susquehanna Township, and some based on the East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, campus of Highmark Inc., its parent. United Concordia held the same TRICARE contract from 1996 to 2012 before losing it to another bidder. The new one takes affect Feb. 1, 2017. But other bidders first have an opportunity to challenge the contract. "It's a very normal part of the process," Highmark spokesman Leilyn Perri said. "We feel very good about our chances."
