COLUMBIA ─ Senate Majority Leader Harvey Peeler of Gaffney watched the Senate meet for a month without taking up the issue he said most South Carolinians want addressed and he couldn’t take it anymore. So Peeler took to the floor Thursday to lecture his colleagues about the delay and pleaded with them to start the debate on road funding. “I have absolutely lost my patience with this infrastructure debate we are not having,” he said. “I think it’s past time for us to have a debate on the floor of this subject.” The Senate took no action to bring up the roads bill that has been on the Senate’s calendar for almost a year but Peeler’s harangue triggered a two-and-a-half hour debate about why the Senate was not debating roads.
