SANTA FE – Gov. Susana Martinez gave the go-ahead Thursday to two election-related bills sponsored by Republican Rep. Nora Espinoza of Roswell, who filed this week to run for secretary of state. The Republican governor authorized lawmakers to hear bills that would keep advisory questions off the ballot and outline the acceptable use of campaign funds by candidates. The governor’s OK is required in 30-day legislative sessions to consider bills other than tax and revenue matters. Voters in November will elect someone for the next two years to fill out the term of former Secretary of State Dianna Duran, who resigned in October and pleaded guilty to misusing campaign contributions.
