A federal judge Monday declined to bar the federal government from settling Syrian refugees in Texas, ruling that the matter was a political question that did not belong in the courts. “Somewhat ironically, Texas, perhaps the reddest of red states, asks a federal court to stick its judicial nose into this political morass, where it does not belong absent statutory authorization,” U.S. District Judge David Godbey wrote. “Finding no such authorization, this court will leave resolution of these difficult issues to the political process,” he said. Godbey’s order also said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton failed to provide sufficient evidence showing that terrorists had infiltrated the refugee program, “much less that these particular refugees are terrorists intent on causing harm.” Read more: www.statesman.com/news/news/judge-texas-cannot-block-syrian-refugees/nqL4d/ Paxton loses again!
